One of Jharkhand’s most notable activists, a diligent and much-loved leader, passed away today. Venerable Jagarnath Mahato ji passed away in Chennai while undergoing treatment. At the same time, pray for the soul of the deceased to have peace and strength for the family to overcome this great pain and loss.

Who is Jagarnath Mahto?
Jagarnath Mahto is an Indian politician and cabinet minister from Jharkhand, popularly known as Tiger Mahto or Tiger Jagarnath Da. He served as a legislator of the Jharkhand Mukti Morcha for the district Dumri Vidhan Sabha.

Tiger Mahto was born on January 1, 1967 in a small village called Alargo, Bokaro District Jharkhand. The minister, who dropped out of high school, studied at Nehru High School in 1995. He then left his studies midway to become active in politics.
Dumri Assembly seat has been a stronghold of the JMM with Jagarnath Mahto representing its seat since 2000. In the 2014 Assembly elections, he received 77,984 votes, defeating his nearest rival Lalchand Mahto , who contested on the BJP ticket.

Death of Jagarnath Mahto: Reasons
Jharkhand Education Minister Mahto tested positive for COVID-19 in 2020. He was taken to Chennai for better treatment and remained in a coma for a long time. The 56-year-old leader also underwent a lung transplant, before returning to the state after nine long months of continuous treatment.
Later, Mahto was again airlifted to Chennai after he reported feeling uncomfortable during the state budget session last month. And on Thursday morning, after suffering multiple organ failure, he passed away at MGM Healthcare.

Dumri’s representation has been in the news for many good and bad reasons over the years. After facing criticism about his qualifications as minister of education, he decided to study further. In 2020, he was admitted to the school he built and inaugurated in his hometown.
He was one of the first Education Ministers to gift cars to top leaders in the state. While earlier in 2011, he was in the news for his Janta Darbar. Since the area had no courts, he established his own parallel judicial system in Dumri. He believes that only sticks and canes can reform unruly youth in society.
MA Subramaniam, health minister of Tamil Nadu visited MGM Hospital to pay his last respects to the departed soul. On the other hand, considering this an irreparable loss to Jharkhand’s politics and government, CM Hemant Soren called for two days of national mourning.
