Strong leader Naba Kisore Das, from the western part of the state and three-time MLA passed away after multiple gunshots on Sunday, January 29, 2023.
He is said to be the richest person in the state cabinet. He has a passion for luxury cars and owns 40 of them.
Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik Condolenced on his sudden death saying that the late leader was an asset to his government and party.
The minister was treated before his death at a private hospital in Bhubaneswar.
The police officer shot at him when he reached Brajrajnagar in Jharsuguda to attend an early morning program. The shooter was an assistant sub-inspector, identified as Gopal Das. Immediately, he was arrested by local people and handed over to the police.

Kisore Das: Early life and education
- Naba Kisore Das was born on January 7, 1962.
- He completed his matriculation from Sambalpur High School Bhojpur in 1978.
- In 1989, he graduated with a degree in English and law in 1994.
- He joined the Congress in the 1980s while still a student at Gangadhar Meher College in Sambalpur.
- He recently came into limelight after offering prayers at the Shani temple in Maharashtra’s Shingnapur, where he donated nearly 1 crore kalas of gold.
The beginning
- He contested the Jharsuguda assembly seat on a Congress ticket for the first time in 2004, where he was defeated.
- In 2009, he was elected as an MLA when he competed again
- In 2014, he fought the polls on a Congress ticket and became an MLA for the second time.
- He presents himself as a frontline leader of the Congress, he is already the acting president of the party’s state unit.
- In 2019, he left the Congress and joined the BJD.
- England once again recorded victory for the third time.

said Patnaik, who expressed shock and deep sadness over the death of the minister
“Naba Kisore was instrumental in strengthening the BJD and was a grassroots leader. He added that doctors tried their best to save him but unfortunately, he could not recover from his fatal injuries.
“As a leader, he was instrumental in strengthening the Biju Janata Dal; He is a grassroots leader, loved and respected by everyone. He cuts the party line and the people’s lines. “His death is a big loss for the state of Odisha,” Patnaik said.
