There are many agreements that have taken place between India and the United States, one of which is “Ship Maintenance and Repair”. The US Navy has entered into with Larsen and Toubro Shipyards in Kattupalli, south of Chennai, a Master Ship Repair Agreement (MSRA). The United States is eager to finalize such agreements with Goa Shipyards and Mazagon Dock Limited in Mumbai.
As part of these agreements, U.S. naval vessels may be offered repairs and service at these shipyards.
The Importance of the Main Ship Repair Agreement
The Master Ship Repair Agreement is an important cornerstone of the defense industry relationship between the United States and India. The two countries are conducting negotiations on the Security of Supply Agreement and the Mutual Defense Procurement Agreement. This will ensure the supply of defense goods in the event of unforeseen supply chain problems.
Both of these involve stockpiling goods at Indian facilities. These also involve expanding the base of defense goods suppliers and manufacturers required by the United States to include Indian companies.
After signing the agreements, manufacturers from India will be able to interact with equipment manufacturers from the US and become contractors and suppliers for Military Industry orders. The Pentagon.
The Bilateral Defense Procurement Agreement provides exemptions from U.S. laws that require federal procurement only for U.S. companies.
MSRA also supplemented the 2016 Logistics Exchange Memorandum of Agreement (LEMOA). LEMOA provides both nations access to their designated military installations for replenishment and fuel. Bookkeeping and payment mechanisms are an essential aspect of this. The Logistics Exchange Memorandum is limited to cases arising from joint exercises, humanitarian assistance and disaster relief (HADR), port calls, etc.
The steps discussed will take place in the newly completed US-India Defense Cooperation strategy, which aims to provide policy direction for defense industries, while also allowing for co-production of defense systems. .
