The Ministry of Labour, Government of India established the National Safety Council of India (NSC) on 4 March 1966. To develop and sustain the SHE movement focusing on safety, Health and Environment at the national level. Essentially, the NSC is an autonomous body. Therefore, the founding day of the National Safety Council was decided to be observed as National Safety Day in 1972. It was also decided to commemorate this day as the National Safety Week (NSW) Campaign which would last lasting for a week.

About the National Safety Council (NSC)

As mentioned above on 4 March 1966, the National Safety Council was established by the Ministry of Labour, Government of India (GOI) to sustain the voluntary movement on SHE at the national level. It is a not-for-profit apex, tripartite body registered under the Societies Registration Act, 1860 and the Bombay Public Trust Act, 1950.

Activities focused on NSC’s objectives include organizing specialized training courses, conferences, seminars and workshops, conducting consulting studies such as safety audits, hazard assessments , risk assessment, etc. There are not only a number of national and international conferences such as the XIII World Congress (1993) and APOSHO Conference (1995 and 2016). It also carries out a number of prestigious projects organized by the NSC. During more than 50 years of operation, the company has built a team of technical experts and capabilities to meet emerging challenges.
