A political party is a group of people who share similar political views, run for office together, and try to hold power in government. Members of political parties agree on certain policies and programs for society that promote the collective good.
Political parties wishing to participate in local, state or national elections must register with the Election Commission of India (EC). The number/status of national, state and regional parties increases or decreases based on their performance in elections.
