Lord Shiva is one of the most worshiped deities. He is the Supreme God among the ‘Trimurti’, the creator, protector and changer of the universe. His existence in Hindu mythology still has significance and relevance in today’s world. One can learn and apply these 7 life lessons from the life of Lord Shiva for a better life.

Courage

Lord Shiva is also known as Bhairav, the destroyer of fear. According to Hindu mythology, during the Amrit Manthan (ocean churning) when the poison was released, lord Shiva came forward and drank it to save all the other gods. Additionally, his Trishul shows his control and courage to achieve success in life.

Simplicity

Bholenath is another name of Lord Shiva. Even after becoming the greatest then and now, he still lived the simplest life. The tree bark on his body, messy hair, no jewelry and not a leisurely life are symbols of his simplicity.

Meditation

Lord Shiva is believed to be meditating for hours and months together for the well-being of the universe. As a result, he achieved peace and concentration, and later became known as Dhyanadeep. Meditation gave him the strength to deal with any situation calmly. Therefore, inspired by Lord Shiva, one should meditate for some time to relieve his stressful life.

Love for all living things/animals

Pashupati or Pashupatinath is the name of Lord Shiva, which means Lord of animals. And his love for animals can be easily seen through the snake wrapped around his neck. There is hardly any creature more cruel and fearsome than a snake and Bholenath also befriended that snake with his yogic qualities and adorned it around its neck.

Be calm and patient

Lord Shiva is very powerful and supreme yet stays away from worldly happiness. He knows that nothing in life is immortal and everything changes over time. He remains grounded, free from desires, away from wealth and other worldly things. Therefore, one should not chase after material benefits but instead seek happiness in whatever is available around us. Shantah (another name for Lord Shiva) has a moon decoration on his head symbolizing Calmness.

Farsightedness

Bholenath’s third eye teaches us to look at the aspects of every problem that occurs in life. Sometimes what we see can also be wrong, so we should consider it with our conscience. With his foresight, he is also known as Priyadarshana, the one who can see beyond the problem. Because a problem is not the problem but your attitude towards it can make the difference. So stay calm and overcome the problem with understanding.

Compassion

Lord Shiva is known for his relationship with his Gana, of all categories. Dayalu, Lord Shiva represents the end of ego, ignorance and the dawn of knowledge. Additionally, his Ardhanarishwar side also gives Shiva a special place in the hearts and lives of people.

Devotees of Lord Shiva are widely spread all over the world. Shiva has a diverse personality, sometimes he plays the role of destroyer, protector and creator. Shivratri & Mahashivratri are celebrated with great enthusiasm by Hindus across the globe.
