The latest Dadasaheb Phalke International Film Festival awards ceremony was attended by Bollywood and Television personalities who were honored at the event for their contributions to Indian cinema on Friday. Two. Alia Bhatt won the Best Actress award for her powerful performance in Gangubai Kathiawadi with her husband winning the Best Actor award for Brahmastra (Part 1: Shiva). The prize includes a Swarna Kamal (Golden Lotus) medal, a shawl and a cash prize of ₹1,000,000 (US$13,000).

Why was India’s highest Film Award given to Dadasaheb Phalke?
Dadasaheb Phalke’s real name is Dhundiraj Govind Phalke. He was born on 30 April 1870 in Trimbak, Maharashtra, into a Marathi-speaking Chitpavan Brahmin family. He trained in acting and photography at Sir JJ School of Art in Mumbai. After that, he went to Germany to study filmmaking. On his return to India, he produced Raja Harishchandra, the country’s first feature-length silent film. He received the honorary title of “Father of Indian Cinema” for his sincere commitment and belief in cinema.
Subsequently, the Dada Saheb Phalke Award was established by the government of India in 1969 to recognize and appreciate the best performances of the year in various categories as a way of honoring his exemplary contributions .
