Busch Stadium
Busch Stadium is a large baseball venue in St. Louis, Missouri, where the St. Louis Cardinals play. Also called New Busch Stadium or Busch Stadium III. The stadium has capacity for around 44,383 people and has special seating for around 3,706 fans, as well as 61 luxury suites. It was built where the old Busch Memorial Stadium used to be, and next door is a cool shopping and entertainment area called Ballpark Village.
It opened on April 4, 2006 with a practice game between two Cardinals-related teams, the Memphis Redbirds and the Springfield Cardinals. The true first game was on April 10, 2006, when the Cardinals beat the Milwaukee Brewers on a home run by Albert Pujols.
In 2004, Anheuser-Busch president August Busch IV stated that they had purchased the rights to the name for 20 years. Team owner William DeWitt Jr. wanted to keep the name “Busch Stadium” as a tribute to the fans and the city of St. Louis.
This stadium is the third in St. Louis to be called Busch Stadium. The first was called Sportsman’s Park and changed to Busch Stadium in 1953. August Busch Jr., the owner at the time, wanted to call it Budweiser Stadium, but the rules did not allow naming a venue after an alcoholic beverage. So he named it Busch Stadium in his honor, and the company later made Busch Beer.
