Black day of Pulwama attack: Pulwama attack was one of the deadliest attacks on Indian security personnel in Kashmir. Details of Pulwama attack

Below is a timeline of events that took place on February 14, 2019.

CRPF personnel were transported from Jammu to Srinagar via NH 44.

On February 14, 2019, a convoy of 78 vehicles carrying over 2,500 CRPF personnel left Jammu at around 3:30 am. The convoy was transporting CRPF personnel from Jammu to Srinagar via NH 44 and planned to reach there before sunset.

A vehicle loaded with explosives rammed into the CRPF convoy.

At around 3:15 pm at Lethpora, a vehicle laden with explosives rammed into a bus, killing around 40 CRPF personnel of Battalion 76 and injuring others. The injured were taken to the military base hospital in Srinagar.

Jaish-e-Mohammed has claimed responsibility for the Pulwama terror attack.

Immediately after the attack, Jaish-e-Mohammed (JeM), a terrorist group based in Pakistan, claimed responsibility for the Pulwama attack. The militant group also released a video of Adil Ahmad Dar from Kakapora, who joined the group in 2018.

Adil Ahmad Dar was identified as the offender.

A 22-year-old young man was identified as the perpetrator. His family last saw him in March 2018 when he left home on his bicycle and never returned.

India’s National Investigation Agency (NIA) has formed a 12-member team to probe the Pulwama attack. The team collaborated with the Jammu and Kashmir Police.

Initial investigations into the Pulwama attack revealed that the car that crashed into the convoy was carrying 300kg of explosives. Although the research team was able to confirm the identity of the suicide bomber, they could not find the source of the explosives. An August 2020 charge sheet filed by the NIA named 19 people who it said carried out the bombing on Pakistani orders.

Consequences of the Pulwama attack.

The state funeral of CRPF Jawan martyrs was held in their hometown. In the wee hours of February 18, a team of 55 Rashtriya Rifles, CRPF and Indian Special Operations Group killed two terrorists and two sympathizers in an anti-terror encounter operation carried out after Indian intelligence got involved. Four Indian security personnel were killed in a fight with rebels.

Among the two terrorists killed, Abdul Rasheed Ghazi alias Kamran was identified as a Pakistani national, who is believed to be the mastermind behind the attack and a JeM commander.

India retaliated on February 26.

At dawn on February 26, India launched an attack on the JeM training camp in Balakot. Twelve IAF Mirage 2000 jets crossed the LOC and bombed JeM training camps in Balakot. India claimed to have killed around 300 to 350 terrorists in the attack.

India and Pakistan are on the brink of war.

The next day, the Pakistan Air Force launched a counterattack on Indian military installations in Jammu and Kashmir but was unsuccessful.
