It was launched on July 6, 2023 and the platform is getting a huge response. This new platform comes after Twitter restricted the reading limit for tweets. It is also a response to the growing heat between the two owners of the social network.

Before the launch, Mark Zuckerberg created hype. He published a “cheat code” on Instagram that allows users to see a special tag when they search for a “string” of queries. The user will be prompted to check the red box that says Admit One, and when clicking on that ticket, the user will see a card.

The tag will have the username and the time they searched for the query. The card will also have a link below to download the Threads app.

Mark Zuckerberg’s launch of the Threads app can be seen as his answer to Elon Musk’s growing influence in the social media space. Zuckerberg posted a photo of the famous Spider-Man meme pointing at each other on Twitter, seemingly declaring that the introduction of Threads was a competition with Twitter.

Within 7 hours, Threads received a positive response and was registered by 10 million users. The number was confirmed by Mark Zuckerberg on his official Threads account.

The announcement was then followed by Adam Mosseri, Director of Instagram, who posted a video on his Instagram account saying “Theme is for public conversations. We hope to bring some of the content we’ve built for Instagram photos and videos into Texted Topics.”

“We are bringing a lot of useful tools from Instagram to Threads. Things like Hidden Words and Restrictions, let you shape the experience into something a little more user-friendly,” he added.

The Threads app was definitely launched in a hurry because it lacks basic features like the ability to search for hashtags. In response to a question about the possibility of adding hashtag searches in the future, Adam Mosseri stated: “Yes, many such basic things are still missing.”

At first glance, the platform looks quite similar to Twitter. It is basic and allows users to share their thoughts verbally and visually. Users can attach media and control who can reply to their Threads.

It is important to note that the platform does not have any web interface so users can only use the platform on their smartphones.

The company may roll it out on the web at a later date but for now, they have no plans. In his reply to a user on Threads, Adam Mosseri stated “Preferably mobile apps, but we are working on www.”

To use Instagram Themes, users need to follow these steps:

  • Download the app from the App Store or Google Play Store. The official name of this app is “Themes, Instagram app” with a black logo.
  • After installing the app, it prompts the user to sign in with their Instagram account.
  • The app will ask you to customize your profile. You can skip this step by clicking “Next” or click on the “Import from Instagram” option to import your profile information from Instagram.
  • After completing their profile, users will be prompted to choose whether they want to keep their Threads profile public or private.
  • Choose whether you want to follow all the accounts that you follow on Instagram. You can also skip this step and follow new people later.
  • The Themes app will log in and show you text posts from various users. Unlike Twitter, which has separate “For You” and “Following” tabs, Instagram Topics has a single page that displays both types of content.

How to start a thread?

  • Open the Themes app.
  • Tap the Compose button in the middle.
  • Enter your message in the text field.
  • Click the Post button.
  • The platform allows a 500 character limit for text and videos that can be up to 5 minutes long.

In short, Threads is still a relatively new app, but it has the potential to become an important app in the social media landscape. The app’s focus on text-based communication makes it well-suited to tracking the rivalry between Mark and Musk.
