World Water Day 2023: Theme
The theme for World Water Day 2023 is ‘Accelerating change’. According to the World Water Organization, “This year’s World Water Day aims to promote change to address the water and sanitation crisis. And because water affects us all, we need everyone to act together. You and your family, school and community can make a difference by changing the way you use, consume and manage water in your lives. Your commitment will be added to the Water Action Agenda, which will be launched at the 2023 United Nations Water Conference, the first event of its kind in nearly 50 years. This is a rare moment for the world to unite around water.”
The theme of World Water Day 2022 is “Groundwater: Making the invisible visible”. Topic proposed by IGRAC. Groundwater is a vital resource that provides nearly half of all potable water worldwide, about 40% of irrigated agriculture, and about one-third of the water needed by industry. Groundwater is vital to the healthy functioning of ecosystems, including wetlands and rivers.
The theme of World Water Day 2021 is “Valuing Water”. It is necessary to understand the importance of water and its uses. Water has far-reaching and complex values for households, food, culture, health, education, etc.
The theme of World Water Day 2019 is “Let no one be left behind” and 2018 is “Nature for Water” or “Nature-Based Solutions for Water”. Mainly focuses attention on the importance of water. This theme aligns with the central promise of the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development that as sustainable development progresses, everyone must benefit. World Water Day: History
We know that all over the world is celebrating World Water Day on March 22. In 1993, the United Nations General Assembly decided to celebrate this day as an annual event to raise awareness among people about water needs and conservation. Officially it was first added to the 21st schedule of the 1992 “United Nations Conference on Environment and Development” in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil.
