World Tuna Day 2023: On May 2, coastal regions around the world celebrate World Tuna Day every year. To preserve tuna stocks around the world and contribute to the development of sustainable fishing models, fishing communities, scientists and environmentalists have collaborated to achieve this day. Because it is an important animal for human nutrition and the economy.
According to a report by the Food and Agriculture Organization of the United Nations, most tuna stocks have been fully exploited due to the inability to expand fisheries and others have been overexploited, meaning there are risk of decline in reserves. Fisheries Sustainability International estimates that 13% of tuna stocks are overfished while 65% of stocks are at healthy levels of abundance.
In resolution 71/124 from December 2016, the United Nations General Assembly officially decided to observe the event. And this campaign highlights the importance of conservation managers ensuring that they have the necessary mechanisms and tools to keep tuna stocks from dwindling.

Tuna is a fish with speed, slim and elegant shape. On its back there are two separate but close together dorsal fins; The first fin is “depressible” and can be laid flat down in a groove running along its back; it is supported by spines. From the dorsal fin to the tail, it curves and tapers to sharp points, with 7 to 10 yellow fins. Tuna’s pelvic fins are found below the base of the pectoral fins. When a fish swims quickly, both the dorsal and pelvic fins contract.
