World Press Freedom Day 2023: Origins
In December 1993, the United Nations General Assembly declared the first World Press Freedom Day on the recommendation of the UNESCO General Assembly. Since then, May 3 has been observed as World Press Freedom Day to commemorate the Windhoek Declaration.

World Press Freedom Day 2023: Purpose
World Press Day, also known as World Press Freedom Day, honors journalists who have died in service.
