Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu, three-time MLA from Himachal Pradesh and head of the Congress’s election commission, is the newly appointed Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh.
Early life
In Sera village in tehsil Nadaun of Hamirpur district, Sukhu was born on March 27, 1964. Rashil Singh, his father, worked as a driver for Shimla-based Himachal Road Transport Corporation. Unlike his mother, Sansar Dei, who was always at home.
Sukkhu, a lawyer originally from Nadaun in the state’s Hamirpur district, joined the National Students Union of India (NSUI), the student wing of the Congress, as a college student. In 1989, he was chosen to lead the state department. Sukhvinder also chaired the state Youth Congress from 1998 to 2008.

Political career
After rising to the leadership of the Congress’s state unit and starting his political career in the student council, Sukhu is now looking to establish himself firmly in the party’s senior leadership role. after a convincing victory at Nadaun.
Sukhu entered the public sector after winning two elections to the Shimla Municipal Corporation Council between 1992 and 2002. In 2008, after his tenure at the Youth Congress, he was appointed as Secretary of the Pradesh Congress Committee. Sukhu was later appointed party president largely due to his party management skills and popularity.
Sukhu’s leadership of the election campaign committee for the election scheduled for later this year is clear evidence of his position in the party. The veteran leader over time built support among locals and party cadres.
After the Congress won the 2022 Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly elections, a grassroots politician with extensive organizational experience in the hill state was appointed as the new chief minister of Himachal Pradesh and Mukesh Agnihotri was appointed as his deputy.
