During a press conference held in Delhi with the aim of demanding a joint parliamentary committee (JPC) probe against the Adani Group, Khera made a comment that landed him in controversy. According to reports, Pawan Khera called the Prime Minister “Narendra Gautamdas Modi”.

The man commented while criticizing the Bhartiya Janata Party (BJP) government regarding the Gautam Adani-led business conglomerate.

In response to Pawan Khera’s remarks, Samuel Changsan, a BJP member in Assam approached the police station and booked Pawan Khera under IPC Sections 120 B (criminal conspiracy), 153 A, 153 B (1) ( inciting hostility on grounds of religion, race, place of birth, etc.), 500 (defamation), 504 (Intentional insult with intent to incite disturbance of the peace), 505 (1) (2) ( Statement causing public disturbance). A complaint against the man was also filed in the state of Uttar Pradesh.

In his defence, Pawan Khera expressed that he was really confused with the Prime Minister’s middle name.
