Political career
Badal started his political career in 1947. He was an official of Badal village before entering Punjab politics and later served as president of Lambi Block Samiti. In 1957, the political party Hiromani Akali Dal initially selected him to represent them in the Punjab Vidhan Sabha. He won four consecutive elections and served as the 8th Chief Minister of Punjab from 1970 to 1971, 1977 to 1980, 1997 to 2002 and from 2007 to 2017, and was also the 8th Minister of Agriculture and Farmers’ Welfare. 11 of the Federation. The Akal Takht awarded Badal the title of Panth Rattan Fakhr-e-Qaum on December 11, 2011, which means “Jewel of religion or pride of the community.” However, it was later canceled following accusations of civil rights violations.
On 30 March 2015, President of India Pranab Mukherjee presented Padma Vibhushan to Parkash Singh Badal. Additionally, he reciprocated the honor to support the Indian farmers’ protest on December 3, 2020.
Bhagwant Singh Mann, Chief Minister of Punjab, expressed his grief and noted that the province had lost a giant. According to Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Badal’s death was a personal loss for him. He recalls his decades-long friendship with Badal.
