What is Legion of Honor?
The Legion of Honor, or the Legion of Honor, is France’s highest decoration, both military and civil. This is one of the most prominent national titles in the world. It was Napoleon Bonaparte who established the Order in 1802. This honor has been awarded on behalf of French Heads of State for over 200 years. Honneur et Patrie, French for Honor and Fatherland, is the motto of the Order. According to the official website of the Legion of Honor, 300 foreigners and 2,200 Frenchmen are awarded the medal each year. Currently the Order has 79,000 members. Normally, this honor recognizes the contribution of the French people to “serving the country”. In the case of foreigners, the honor is given for their contribution to the country. Occasionally, awards are also given to high-ranking officials during a state visit to the country.
What does the award bring?
The prize does not entail any financial or material benefit towards the prize. The government determined that the Legion of Honor could not be applied to potential honorees. The award’s coat of arms is a Maltese asterisk with five branches. This asterisk is actually hung on a wreath of oak and laurel.
