Karnataka is famous for its milk cooperatives present in almost every district in the state and Karnataka Milk Federation is a popular name among them. Karnataka Milk Federation (KMF) is a federation owned by the Ministry of Cooperatives, Government of Karnataka. It sells dairy products like curd, milk, butter, ghee and cream, along with sweets and chocolates under the brand name Nandini. Under this brand, milk collected by farmers is processed and then sold.
The early days of establishment
It was in Kodagu district that the first dairy cooperatives to form KMF began operations in 1955. The Karnataka Milk Federation was established in 1974, as the Karnataka Dairy Development Corporation (KDCC) to implement a dairy development project managed by the World Bank.
When did the organization get its current name?
In 1984, a decade after its inception, the organization was renamed the Karnataka Milk Federation. KMF comprises a total of 14 milk unions across the state of Karnataka. These milk associations have 1,500 members, purchasing milk from Primary Dairy Cooperative Societies (DCS). The milk thus obtained will be distributed to consumers settled in both rural and urban markets in the state of Karnataka.
KMF’s activities
The name Puneeth Rajkumar pops up in many people’s minds as soon as KMF is mentioned as this man has acted as a brand ambassador for the federation. What makes this work even more special is that Rajkumar did it for free. In 2014, Shriya Saran was selected as Nandini’s Good Life Product Ambassador in the states of Telangana, Kerala, Andhra Pradesh and Tamil Nadu. One can find KMF products under the Nandini brand in many states across the country, namely, Andhra Pradesh, Tamil Nadu, Goa, Maharashtra and Telangana.
