The heat of ChatGPT is becoming more and more popular and it has also reached Google. That’s why the search engine giant decided to launch an AI chatbot version called Google Bard.

What exactly is Google Bard?
In its own words, “Google Bard is a large language modeling chatbot developed by Google AI. It is trained on a huge text and code dataset and can generate text, translate languages, write different types of creative content, and answer your questions in an informative manner. Bard is still under development but it has learned how to perform a variety of tasks.”
Bard is an AI chatbot created by Google to compete with other AI players. The platform was announced in February 2023 and users had to join the waiting list to test the capabilities of Google’s new initiative.
However, recently a company article from Google was published “As we continue to make additional improvements and introduce new features, we want to get Bard into the hands of more people so they can try it out and share their feedback with us.
“So today we’re clearing the waitlist and opening Bard to more than 180 countries and territories — with more coming soon.”
Bard is separate from Google Search. Bard can code, solve problems, and assist with writing needs, like most AI chatbots.
Google CEO mentioned “Bard seeks to combine the breadth of the world’s knowledge with the power, intelligence and creativity of our great language models. It relies on information from the web to provide fresh, high-quality feedback.
“Bard can be an outlet for creativity and a launching pad for curiosity, helping you explain new discoveries from NASA’s James Webb Space Telescope to a 9-year-old or learn more about Best strikers in football today and then get practice to build your skills.”
The platform opens with a welcome screen that displays each prompt at the top to demonstrate its capabilities.
Below the prompt, the welcome screen is mentioned “Meet Bard: your creative and helpful collaborator, here to enhance your imagination, increase productivity, and turn your ideas into reality.”
Furthermore, it also informs the user about Bard’s abilities “Bard is a test and may give inaccurate or inappropriate responses. You can help Bard become better by leaving feedback.”

And below that is a checkbox that says “Opt in to receive email updates about the Bard. Your personal data will be processed by Google LLC to send those emails in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy.”
Unlike ChatGPT, this platform does not display reminder history on the left panel. However, there is an option called “Bard’s Activities” redirect to the prompt presented.
Bard lets you control how your activity data is stored. You can choose to automatically delete your activity data after a certain period of time, or you can delete it manually at any time.
What does Bard run on?
The platform is based on Google’s large language model (LLM) LaMDA.
Bard previously ran on Google’s LaMDA language model, trained on a massive text and code dataset.
However, it has now moved to a newer and more powerful language model. PaLM 2 can create text, translate languages, write different types of creative content, and answer questions informatively.
Sundar Pichai in the latest Google I/O mentioned “That’s the opportunity we have with Bard, our experiment in conversational AI that we launched in March.
“We grew Bard quickly. It now supports a wide range of programming capabilities and has become much smarter at providing reasoning and math suggestions. And as of today, it is now fully running on PaLM 2.”
How to access Google Bard?
Here is how one can use Google Bard:

Google Bard differentiates itself from its competitors by offering multiple answer drafts to prompts, as well as a “Google it” options to help users find additional sources of information.
Google Bard vs ChatGPT: Which is better?

Additionally, Google Bard is lacking in providing sources. A test reminder was presented stating this “Give me sources about Indian History with links” and here are the answers:

Although ChatGPT does not have real-time internet access, it still provides several sources to make Indian History accessible.
Another factor that makes Bard better than ChatGPT is that it can be accessed using voice prompts. This is a convenient way to get feedback while multitasking, and it may be the first time that voice is used as a prompt on an AI chatbot.
Google has focused on improving the user experience for Bard by providing the option to export responses in Google Docs or as Drafts in Gmail. This is a convenient feature that allows users to save their answers for later use or to share with others. ChatGPT does not offer this feature, which makes Bard a more user-friendly option.
The ongoing debate between ChatGPT and Bard revolves around their unique strengths and areas for improvement. Both AIs are continually evolving, driven by the pursuit of improving their abilities and understanding of human language.
