Aadhaar is a 12-digit unique identification number that serves as the primary identification system in India. UIDAI issues Aadhaar number to every Indian citizen. Aadhaar is not mandatory but is becoming more and more important.
But having a valid Aadhaar card is not enough. It also needs to be updated regularly, especially if you change your home address or phone number.
The process of updating Aadhaar cards used to be troublesome, but UIDAI has streamlined it considerably over the years. Updating Aadhaar Card just got even easier.

How to update Aadhaar card without supporting documents?
Consider the case of a person moving permanently to another city. Now he needs to update his registered address in his bank account, Aadhaar card, voter ID card and other necessary documents.
But what about family members, especially children, who do not have bank accounts, voter ID cards or other supporting documents verifying their permanent address?
Such cases happen frequently in India and UIDAI has now introduced measures to simplify the process of updating Aadhaar when a person does not have supporting documents with the “Head of Household” option.

Here’s what you need to know to update your Aadhaar card without supporting documents.
- The Head of Household (HoF) Aadhaar needs to be fully updated, especially their registered address and biometric information.
- Dependent family members can provide proof of relationship (PoR) documents in the name of the HoF or a self-declaration form from the HoF.
- The HoF must be present while updating the Aadhaar of family members, as the person’s fingerprints and biometrics will be required.
Valid proof of relationship (PoR) documents
- Passport
- Ration Card/PDS Card
- Pension card
- Certificate of marriage
- Birth certificate (for children from 0 to 5 years old)
In case one of the above documents is not available, you can use the self-declaration of the head of the family confirming the relationship with relatives residing at the same address. This form can be downloaded by visiting UIDAI>Downloads>Supporting Document List>Page 3.
The rest of the Aadhaar card updating process is the same as before. Visit the official website of UIDAI, find the updated center, book and visit the center on the day of your appointment with the Head of Household.
