The festival is celebrated as a precious family time and preparing good auspicious things is considered the first thing on Vishu (Vishukkani) day. These items include the golden flowers of the Indian gorse (Kani Konna), money or silver objects, cloth (pattu), mirrors, rice, coconuts, cucumbers, fruits and things related to harvesting other. People wear new clothes and worship Lord Krishna, the avatar of Lord Vishnu, who is affectionately known as Unni Krishnan, as part of the festival.
