Twitter recently made an announcement saying the company had merged with an ‘everything app’ owned by Elon Musk, called X. Twitter revealed in court filings that the company no longer exists anymore. Twitter’s assets were merged with X Corp.

What is Group X?

X Corp. is a privately held corporation in Nevada. Its principal place of business is in San Francisco, California. Elon Musk really wanted to build an application capable of providing comprehensive features, similar to WeChat in China.

Musk has long been determined to come up with an app that could act as a “super app” for the United States. In one of his podcasts last year, Musk expressed that there are two possibilities; Twitter will be converted into such an application or a new application will be launched. Elon Musk mentioned WeChat from China, an app that is actually a virtual platform that includes social networking, messaging, and an advertising payment system. However, so far the United States lacks such a platform. According to Elon Musk, 51, launching such an app would be the next logical step for the United States.

What does the merger mean?

Twitter’s merger with X Corp. is an important step. This step shows that Elon Musk intends to follow his long-term vision for the business. It was in 1999 when Musk showed interest in creating an Everything app. Also this year, he co-founded X.com, an online bank. This online bank was later merged to create PayPal. App X intends to be a truly comprehensive app. This means it will have not just one but a multitude of features, including messaging, social networks, and payment systems.

Laura Loomer, a journalist who has sued Twitter and many other social media companies, posted a legal filing about Twitter’s merger with X Corp. Other attorneys such as Michael Gottlieb, Kristin E. Bender, Jonathan Patchen, Yuhan Alice Chi and Meryl Conant Governski also signed legal documents. Laura Loomer sued Facebook and Meta Platforms, along with their CEOs. In the United States District Court for the San Fransisco Division of the Northern District of California, the fraud lawsuit was first filed on May 2, 2022. Joshua Webb, an attorney for Twitter, also filed documents to prove that Twitter, Inc. was merged into X Corp. and no longer exists, in the United States District Court for the Southern District of Miami Division of Florida.
