June is a special month for people in the LGBTQIA+ community. It is celebrated worldwide as Pride Month. Across India, many events are organized this month to recognize and celebrate the LGBTQIA+ community. The flag represents the LGBTQIA+ community and it is commonly seen at most of these events. A red to purple rainbow is seen on most of these flags. An older version of this flag was created by Daniel Quasar in 2018.
However, a newer version of the Pride flag appeared in 2021, created by Valentino Vecchietti. This flag is called the Pride Flag of Inclusive Progress between Genders.

Pride flag
There is pride associated with LGBTQIA+ social movements, and the pride flag represents this same pride. People from the LGBTQIA+ community have been fighting for basic rights around the world for centuries. Many countries around the world do not accept the LGBTQIA+ community with open arms. For example, Uganda criminalized the LGBTQIA+ community in a recent law.
Why is the new pride flag called the Gender Inclusive Progress Pride Flag?
According to the United Nations, the intersex community is born with gonadal, genital, and chromosomal patterns that actually don’t fit the typical binary concepts of male and female bodies.
In 2021, Gender Equality decided to upgrade the Proud Progressive flag template to include the intersex flag. Activists from Intersex Equal Rights redesigned it, Yellow and purple were included to contrast pink and blue, which are used to represent colors according to gender). The end result is a gender-inclusive Pride flag.
Let’s decode the colors
The inclusion of such a variety of colors is not simply a coincidence. In fact, each color represents something.

Red symbolizes life. Yellow, being a bright color, represents new ideas. On the other hand, orange is a symbol of healing. Green, as in most cultures, speaks of prosperity. Purple represents spirit. Blue represents serenity. In the chevron, it is clear that black and brown are symbols of people of color. Yellow with purple circles indicates intersex, while white, blue, and pink patterns indicate transgender.
