Misconceptions about solar eclipses
MYTH: Solar eclipses make people blind
Explanation: Radiation emitted by the sun during a solar eclipse has been studied by scientists for a long time. There is nothing in coronal light that can travel 150 million kilometers of space, penetrate our dense atmosphere and lead to blindness because it is a million times weaker than light from the sun itself.
MYTH: Solar eclipses are harmful to the human body
Explanation: Particles called neutrinos are created deep inside the sun, where nuclear fusion occurs to power the sun. Neutrinos shoot unhindered from the sun into space and through the Earth and Moon. Regardless of whether the sun is above or below the horizon, millions of these neutrinos bombard your body every second. The only effect is that every few minutes a few atoms in your body absorb neutrinos and change into another isotope. This effect is completely safe and does not hurt you, even if you are pregnant.
Myth: You should not eat during a solar eclipse
The basic concept is that total solar eclipses are nasty and their strange green halos look scary. According to some folk tales, during a total solar eclipse, certain forms of dangerous radiation are released that spoil our food or turn it into poison. - Remember to protect your skin by applying sunscreen, wearing a hat, and wearing protective clothing.
