We declared independence from British rule on August 15, 1947, but our country did not yet have a written constitution. India also lacks the necessary expertise and political influence to ensure the smooth running of state affairs. The Government of India Act, 1935, which had a stronger tendency towards colonial rule, was substantially amended to govern up to that point. It is therefore necessary to draft a thorough constitution which encapsulates everything that India stands for.

The first session of the Indian Parliament also took place on this day. India’s first President, Dr. Rajendra Prasad, was also sworn in on January 26. This day is significant as it marks the end of British rule and the beginning of India as a Republic.

On January 26 every year, Indians hold a huge Republic Day Parade in New Delhi. India celebrates the holiday by showcasing the country’s military might and cultural diversity. It shows the diversity of our country in the real world.
