India is on track to become the world’s most populous country by 2023. India is currently the second most populous and seventh largest country in the world.
China has led the population rankings for decades, but its growth rate has now slowed significantly. On the other hand, India’s population is growing rapidly thanks to better health care, improved living standards, increased life expectancy and reduced mortality rates.
Indian population
Currently, India’s population is 1.39 billion, while China’s population is 1.41 billion. India and China alone account for more than a third of the world’s population. However, with the global population surpassing 8 billion by 2022, these numbers are likely to lose weight.
On that note, we bring you some interesting information about the population.
- If India’s states became independent countries today, they would occupy half of the positions in the list of the world’s 20 most populous countries.
- The Indian state of Uttar Pradesh alone would be the fifth largest country in the world in terms of population.
- Gujarat has more population than the combined population of Canada, Australia and New Zealand.

These numbers may be shocking but also alarming. Earth’s natural resources are finite and although India is blessed with abundant essential resources such as fresh water, fertile land and forests, they will not last long if the population continues to grow. continue to increase at the current rate.
The Indian government is pushing population control reforms to stabilize growth. But citizens also have a duty to work towards the prosperity of the country. Hopefully fellow Indians will pay attention to reforms and take measures to control population growth.
