Poems written by Swami Vivekananda

first.

On the fourth of July, behold, the black clouds dispersed, Gathered thickly at night and hung like a gloomy veil over the earth!

At your magical touch, the world will awaken. The birds sing in unison. The flowers raised their crowns like star-dews, and waved to the fair.

The open lake of love, Hundreds of thousands of lotus eyes To welcome you with all its depth.

Hail to you, Lord of Light! Today, a new welcome comes to You, O sun! Today you have lost your FREEDOM! Think how the world has waited for you, And searched for you, through time and climate.

Some abandon their homeland and the love of their friends, And seek you, self-exiled, Through gloomy oceans, through primeval forests, Every step is a life-or-death struggle;

Then comes the day when work bears fruit, And worship, love and sacrifice, Accomplished, accepted and fulfilled. Then you, merciful, stood up to shine the light of FREEDOM on humanity.

Lord, continue on Your irresistible path! Until His noble noon, spread throughout the world. Until all lands reflect His light, Until men and women, with heads held high, See their chains broken, and Know, in overflowing joy, life Their innovation!

2.

A blessing A mother’s heart, a hero’s will, The sweetest feeling of the softest flowers; Charm and strength always move The fire on the blazing altar; Power leads, in love obeys; Distant dreams and the path of patience, Eternal faith in oneself, in general, Great, small divine light; All this and more than I can see, Today please “Mother “Give it to you!

3.

Searching for God In hills, valleys and mountains,In temples, churches and mosques,In Vedas, Bibles, Al KoranI searched for Him in vain.

Like a child lost in the wildest forest I cried and cried alone, “Where are you going, my love? The echo replied, “gone”.

Then days and nights and years pass, Fire in my brain, I don’t know when day changes to night, My heart feels like it’s torn in half. I laid myself down on the banks of the Ganges, exposed to sun and rain; With hot tears, I lay down the dust And mourn with the roar of the water.

I have called on all the holy names of all climates and creeds. “Show me the way, with mercy, the great ones have achieved the goal.”

Years passed in bitter cries, Each moment seemed like an age, Until one day amidst my cries and groans It seemed like someone was calling me.

A soft, soothing voice Saying ‘my son’ ‘my son’,That seemed to vibrate in unisonWith all the chords of my soul.

I stood on my feet and tried to find Where the voice came from; I searched, searched and turned to see Around me, before, after, Again, it seemed to be speaking The divine voice for me. In passion, my whole soul is silent, Mesmerized, immersed in happiness.

A flash of lightning illuminates my soul; My heart opens wide. Oh joy, oh bliss, what do I find! My love, my love, you are hereAnd you are here, my love me, all mine! And I am looking for you – From eternity you have been there, sitting on your majestic throne! From that day forward, wherever I wandered, I felt Him standing above hill and valley, high mountain and valley, Far away and high.

The soft light of the moon, the stars so bright,The bright orb of the day,He shines in them; His beauty – strength -Are reflected lights. Majestic morning, New Year’s Eve, Boundless rolling sea, In the beauty of nature, the song of birds, I see through them – it is He.

When terrible calamity befalls me,My heart seems weak and feeble,All nature seems to crush me,With laws that never bend.I seem to hear You whispering sweetly Love my love, “I’m near”, “I’m near”. strong. With you, my love, A thousand deaths have no fear. You speak in a mother’s words. You close your childish eyes. When innocent children laugh, I see you standing next to me.

When sacred friendship shakes hands, He also stands among them; He poured the nectar into the mother’s kiss And the baby’s sweet “mother”. You are my Lord with the prophets of old, All faiths come from You, Vedas, Bibles and Qurans in bold Sing sing You in Harmony.

“You art,” You are the “Soul of soulsIn the rushing stream of life. “Om tat sat om.” You are my God, My love, I am yours, I am yours .
