Earlier the Union Budget was presented on the last working day of February, but the BJP government changed this tradition. From 2016 onwards, the Union Budget is presented on the first day of February so that it can materialize before the start of the new financial year in April.
The Ministry of Finance deals with matters of taxation, financial laws, financial institutions, capital markets, central and state finances, and the Union Budget. The first Finance Minister of independent India was RK Shanmukham Chetty, who also presented the first Budget.
