List of Chief Ministers of Meghalaya
The Chief Minister of Meghalaya serves as the head of the government of the Indian state of Meghalaya. According to the Indian Constitution, the de facto executive power of a state is held by the chief minister of the state, although the governor is the de jure head of the state. The prime minister is selected by the governor and the council is ultimately responsible for his council of ministers. The Prime Minister’s term is 5 years and is not limited because the council has supported him.
Twelve people have held the office of Chief Minister of Meghalaya since 1970. Six of them belonged to the Indian National Congress, including Williamson A. Sangma, the first holder of the office. Conrad Sangma of the People’s National Party has been in office since 6 March 2018.
