1- Lata Mangeshkar comes from a family of performing artists.
Lata Mangeshkar was the first child of Pandit Deenanath Mangeshkar and Shevanti (Shudhamati). With her sisters Asha, Usha and Meena who are also famous singers, Lata Mangeshkar belongs to a family of performers.
2- Renamed after famous character Latika.
Born Hema, she later changed her name to Lata, inspired by the name of a character in her father’s play Bhaaw Bandhan.
3- She started singing at the age of five.
Because her father was a stage actor and classical singer, she was exposed to music at a very young age and began singing at the age of five. “It happened that once my father asked his Shagird (disciple) to practice Raag while he finished some work. I was playing nearby and suddenly a Raag note that shagird was expressing was jarring. And the next minute, I was correcting. him. When my father returned, he discovered ugliness in his own daughter,” Lata Mangeshkar recalled in an interview with Stardust .
4- Her first song was never played live.
At the age of nine in 1938, Lata gave her first public performance at Nutan Theatre, Sholapur. She recorded her first song in 1942 for the Marathi film Kiti Hasaal. However, the song “Naachu Yaa Gade, Khelu Saari Mani Haus Bhaari” was removed from the final cut of the film.
5- She became famous with the song Aayega Aanewala.

While talking to Bollywood Hungama, Lata Mangeshkar once said that she never listens to her own songs because she would find out some mistakes in her voice.
7- Ghulam Haider is her Godfather and Madan Mohan is her favorite music director.
Music director Ghulam Haider was her Godfather as he showed complete faith in her talent. Lata Mangeshkar shared a special bond with music director Madan Mohan and listed Jahan Ara’s “Woh chup rahe” as their favorite collaboration.
She once said, “I shared a special relationship with Madan Mohan, this relationship was more than that of a singer and a composer. This was the relationship of a brother and a friend. younger sister”.
Despite working with many music directors and composers, she has never worked with OP Nayyar.
8- Composing music for Marathi films.
In 1955, she composed her first music for the Marathi film Ram Ram Pavhane and continued to compose music for many Marathi films under the pen name Anand Ghan.

Lata Mangeshkar became the first Indian to perform live at the iconic Royal Albert Hall. This is her first debut on the international stage.
In the 1974 edition of the Guinness Book of Records, she was listed as the most recorded artist, having sung approximately 25,000 songs.
However, this claim was disputed by Mohammad Rafi and until 1991, the book still listed her name along with Mohammad Rafi’s claim. Currently, Pulapaka Susheela holds this honor.

11- Lata Mangeshkar is a passionate fan of Cricket.
Lata Mangeshkar is an ardent Cricket fan. She witnessed the historic victory in the 1983 World Cup and even organized a free concert to raise money for the Indian team.
12- She was also a Rajya Sabha MP.
She was nominated in 1999 as a Rajya Sabha MP and her term ended in 2006. Criticized for not attending the sessions, Lata Mangeshkar cited her illness and stated that she did not want to be inducted into the Rajya Sabha.
During her term as an MP, she did not receive a penny, a salary or a house in Delhi.
13- Her love story with Raj Singh Dungarpur.
It is said that Lata Mangeshkar and Raj Singh Dungarpur loved each other but vowed never to marry and remained friends for life. This is because the former BCCI President was born into a royal family of Rajasthan and had promised his parents that he would not marry a commoner.
It is also reported that Raj Singh used to call Lata Mangeshkar by the name ‘Mithoo’.
14- Recipients of Bharat Ratna
Lata Mangeshkar is the second Indian singer to be awarded the Bharat Ratna after Carnatic singer MS Subbalakshmi.
15- ‘Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki’ was her last recorded song.
She recorded her last song “Saugandh Mujhe Is Mitti Ki” as a tribute to the Indian Army. The song composed by Mayuresh Pai was released on 30 March 2019.
