Karnataka Chief Minister: Siddaramaiah, who served as the 22nd Chief Minister of Karnataka, will now assume the same post on May 20. The veteran political leader is the first CM to hold the post for a full term, from 2013 to 2018. After DK Shivakumar “sacrificed himself for the good of the party”, Siddaramaiah will be sworn in as state CM in the next 2 days.

After BS Yediyurappa resigned as Chief Minister, Basavaraj Bommai served as the 23rd Chief Minister of Karnataka. Just like outgoing Chief Minister BS Yediyurappa, the 2021 Chief Minister of the state belongs to the politically influential Lingayat community.

BS Yediyurappa announced his resignation as Chief Minister of the state on July 26, 2021, two years after he formed the state government. He submitted his resignation to Governor Raj Bhawan.

K.Chengalaraya Reddy of the Congress was the first Chief Minister of the state (Mysore) of Karnataka. Reddy served as Chief Minister (CM) from October 25, 1947 to March 30, 1952. President’s rule was imposed 6 times in Karnataka, most recently from November 20, 2007 – May 29, 2008.

The state of Karnataka was formed on 25 October 1947. Since its formation, the state was known as Mysore and was renamed Karnataka on 1 November 1973.

Based on the list of Karnataka Chief Ministers, here are some important facts:

1. BS Yediyurappa became the CM with the shortest service time in 2018 (serving for two and a half days).

2. The Premier with the longest serving time is D. Devaraj Urs, who held this position for more than 7 years in the 1970s.

3. As a member of the Janata Party, Ramakrishna Hegde has served the most (3) non-consecutive terms.

4. Veerendra Patil of the National Assembly has the largest gap between two terms (more than 17 years).

5. BD Jatti served as the country’s fifth Vice President.

6. HD Deve Gowda shortened the term of Minister (1994–96) to become Prime Minister of India.

7. Siddaramaiah is the 22nd CM of Karnataka and on May 20th, he will become the 24th CM of the state.
