The 2023 edition of the Indian Premier League is coming to an end. After a thrilling tournament phase, next comes the knockout round. The four playoff teams have been determined after an incredible battle for qualification, which saw seven teams battle for the title until the final week.
However, only 3 prevail. Gujarat Titans qualified for the playoffs before winning the majority of their matches. Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians are the other teams that have secured a spot in the knockout matches.

Fan favourites, Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals, Kolkata Knight Riders, Punjab Kings and Mumbai Indians were all level on the points table till the last four matches. CSK and LSG have a 97% chance of qualifying, and all the trouble lies in the 4th position on the IPL 2023 points table.
Finally, MI made it to the playoffs. Fans are looking forward to more intense matches in the upcoming knockout round and IPL 2023 final.
IPL 2023 Playoffs Rules
- The four teams that top the IPL table after the tournament matches qualify for the playoffs. This becomes even more difficult after the addition of two more teams from IPL 2022.
- The top two teams participate in qualifying round 1, while the two lower teams compete in qualifying round 1.
- The winner of Qualifying Round 1 goes directly to the final round, while the loser plays the winner of Qualifying Round 1 in Qualifying Round 2.
- Thus, all teams hope to reach the top 2 of the IPL scoreboard to have 2 opportunities to win the right to enter the final round.
IPL 2023 Playoffs: Schedule and Venues
- Gujarat Titans, Lucknow Super Giants and Chennai Super Kings, and Mumbai Indians are the teams that have qualified for the IPL playoffs.
- The IPL 2023 playoffs schedule has been announced in advance with the first qualifying match taking place on May 23, Qualifier on May 24 and Qualifier 2 on May 26.
- Gujarat Titans and Chennai Super Kings clashed in Qualifier 1. CSK won the match by 15 runs and progressed straight to the final.
- The knockout match is on May 24 between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. MI defeated LSG and won by 81 runs.
- Qualifying round 2 takes place on May 26 between the loser of Q1 (GT) and the winner of Eliminator (MI). GT won by 62 runs.
- IPL 2023 Qualifiers 1 and Qualifiers will be played in Chennai, while the final two matches (Q2 and Final) will be played in Ahmedabad.
- The IPL 2023 final will take place on Sunday, May 28, 2023 between Chennai Super Kings and Gujarat Titans.
Road to IPL 2023 Playoffs
- As of now, Gujarat Titans, Chennai Super Kings, Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians have qualified for the playoffs.
- Fourth place in the table was up for grabs until the final match of the tournament. Royal Challengers Bangalore, Rajasthan Royals and Mumbai Indians are most likely to clinch the final playoff spot.
- Delhi Capitals and Sunrisers Hyderabad, who remained at the bottom of the points table for most of the tournament were eliminated long ago. PBKS and KKR soon followed.
- RCB played its last match on May 21, but could not win despite Virat Kohli’s remarkable century.
- Rajasthan Royals have a chance to secure the fourth spot in the unlikely scenario of both MI and RCB losing their final match, but even then, NRR will still be the deciding factor.
- Unfortunately for RR fans, the team was eliminated after MI won the match against SRH. And since RCB also lost to GT, MI advanced to the knockout round.

IPL 2023 Final: CSK vs Gujarat Titans
- Chennai Super Kings have once again qualified for the IPL finals. CSK will play their tenth IPL final on May 28 against the winner of Qualifier 2.
- CSK defeated Gujarat Titans by 15 runs. Winning the toss, GT chose to bowl and restrict CSK to 172/7. However, CSK bowlers were superior and defeated the entire GT team in 20 overs by 157 runs.
- MS Dhoni has guided his team on a great IPL run and hopefully they will lift the trophy.
- However, Gujarat Titans have another chance to make it to the finals – some benefit of achieving the first position on the points table.
- GT faced Mumbai Indians in Qualifier 2 of IPL 2023 and thoroughly outplayed the five-time champions.
- GT won by 62 runs. Mohit Sharma was the MVP of the game, after dismissing Suryakumar Yadav and registering a rare five-wicket haul.

IPL 2023 Playoffs: Qualifiers – LSG vs MI
- The highly anticipated Eliminator match of the IPL 2023 playoffs will be played between Lucknow Super Giants and Mumbai Indians. LSG finished third on the points table, while MI qualified in fourth place. But that is normal for MI, and the team regularly rises from the bottom of the table to win the IPL.
- LSG also qualified for the playoffs last year. The last time Mumbai Indians won the IPL trophy was in 2020. MI have won the IPL five times and reached the playoffs 10 times.
- LSG has a strong squad and maintained the leading position on the scoreboard for most of the tournament. MI boasted some of the best chasing performances in IPL 2023. They chased a total of over 200.

Mumbai Indians beat Lucknow super giants in the Eliminator
- Mumbai Indians organized an all-ages show at Chepauk. Batting first, MI scored 182/8 on the scoreboard.
- LSG got off to a flying start and a partnership was forming between Marcus Stoinis and skipper Krunal Pandya as MI’s bowlers attacked with all their might.
- Akash Madhwal registered the most astonishing bowling figures in IPL history – 5/5 in 3.3 overs.
- The entire LSG squad was bowled out for 101 runs in 16.3 overs and MI progressed to Qualifier 2.
