Mahashivratri 2023: The festival of Mahashivratri is being celebrated across the globe today. Hindus observe Maha Shivaratri, or Mahasivaratri in Sanskrit, as an annual holiday to honor the god Shiva. This phrase also refers to the night when Shiva is believed to perform the celestial dance known as Tandava.
Each Hindu lunisolar month has Shivaratri, or “Shiva’s night”, celebrated on the eve of the full moon. Once a year, at the end of winter and just before the beginning of summer, people celebrate “Maha Shivaratri”, also known as “the great night of Shiva” (February or March). Also, it is considered a divine event when Lord Shiva married Goddess Parvati.
