Happy Africa Day 2023: The annual celebration of Africa’s independence, governance and identity is known as African Liberation Day or Africa Day. This date is considered the founding date of the Organization of African Unity on May 25, 1963. In 1958, Accra, the capital of Ghana, held the first celebration of African Liberation Day.
The main objective of the celebration is to draw attention to the harm that colonialism caused to the African continent and to the unity of all Africa. It represents an attempt to restore a sense of continental identity and cohesion. According to the website, Black Alliance for Peace, this year’s theme is “Smash Neo-Colonialism! Africans are ready for revolution!.” Meanwhile, according to the United Nations, the theme of STI on Africa Day is in line with the theme of the 2023 Africa Regional STI Forum, which is “promoting the development and diffusion of emerging technologies for a green, inclusive and resilient Africa”.
