The Green Hydrogen Mission is a policy initiative to promote the production and use of green hydrogen. The objective of the mission is to accelerate the deployment of green hydrogen technologies and make India a global leader in the production and use of green hydrogen.
The National Green Hydrogen Mission has been authorized by the Union Cabinet, chaired by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. A total of Rs. 19,744 crores will be spent on initial expenses of the Mission. The mission includes several initiatives and goals, including developing a National Hydrogen Energy Roadmap, establishing a green hydrogen supply chain, and implementing green hydrogen production and utilization projects.

Green hydrogen mission goals
Here are Green Hydrogen’s goals to achieve by 2030:
- Build a green hydrogen production facility with an annual capacity of at least 5 million tons (million tons) and add an additional 125 GW (GigaWatt) of domestic renewable energy.
- Create jobs for more than 60,000.
- Reducing fossil fuel imports by more than Rs. Cumulatively 1 trillion.
- Reduce annual greenhouse gas emissions by approximately 50 million tons.
