Google recently announced its first experimental AI laptop that allows users to derive key insights from their existing content. The platform uses the power of language models for the task.
The platform was first announced at Google I/O this year. It was first launched as Tailwind and now the tech giant has decided to rename it as NotebookLM.
Google blog states “At Google I/O this year, we introduced some of the first AI experiments in development, including Project Tailwind — a new type of notebook designed to help people learn faster.
“Today we started rolling out Project Tailwind with a new name: NotebookLM, an experimental product from Google Labs,” it added.
NotebookLM is a virtual research assistant that can summarize facts, explain ideas, and come up with new connections based on the sources users provide to the AI platform.

What are the features of NotebookLM?
Google claims that its new platform helps reduce the risk of misinformation or disinformation, which is a key risk of other AI chatbots. This is because the platform is designed to reduce “illusion”, a term used to describe the creation of false or misleading information by AI chatbots.
NotebookLM allows users to “append” language models to their notes and sources. This means that NotebookLM can learn from the information the user provides and can use this knowledge to generate more accurate and relevant responses.
In its blog, Google mentions, “The key difference between NotebookLM and traditional AI chatbots is that NotebookLM allows you to “hook” a language model into your notes and sources. Grounding the power source effectively creates a personalized AI that is fluent in the information relevant to you.”

Event Summary: NotebookLM has the ability to summarize events from your notes and sources. This can be useful for long documents to understand its essence without reading the entire content.
Idea generation: This new AI platform can explain complex ideas or generate new ideas from your notes and sources.
Citation: NotebookLM provides citations for its responses. This can be useful for verifying the information it is providing.
