Eid-ul-Adha 2023: Eid-ul-Adha or commonly known as Bakrid is one of the two important festivals of Muslims. It records the determination of Abraham (Ibrahim) to offer his son Ishmael (Ismail) as a sacrifice for the word of God. The annual Hajj pilgrimage to the holy city of Mecca concludes with this holiday. This year it will be held on June 29.
When is Bakrid in 2023?
The Muslim festival of Eid-ul-Adha, also known as Bakrid, lasts from two to four days and is celebrated on the tenth day of the Islamic lunar month Dhu al-Hijjah. While Eid al-Adha always falls on the same day according to the Islamic calendar, the Gregorian calendar uses the solar year instead of the lunar calendar, so the date of Eid al-Adha changes every year. And this year Eid-Al-Adha will be celebrated on June 29, however, it may vary from region to region.
What is the main difference between Eid-ul-Fitr and Eid-ul-Adha?

Bakrid 2023 in India
Bakrid is celebrated with great pomp and fervor in different parts of India. People of the Muslim Muslim community gather in mosques for special prayers and to listen to sermons. They dress in their best outfits and visit family and friends, exchanging congratulations and gifts. The main highlight was the sacrifice of an animal, usually a goat, which was later divided into three parts — one for the family, one for relatives, and one for the poor. The festival promotes the values of kindness, solidarity and generosity as people share their blessings with others. It promotes family and social ties, encourages charitable activities and strengthens a sense of community among Muslims in India.
Bakrid is a declared public holiday in India and the majority of national, state and local government workplaces will remain closed or have reduced working hours. The Reserve Bank of India (RBI) also refers to Bakrid as a bank holiday. However, in some parts of the country, banks will close on June 28. See the full list below:

Eid and Bakrid are two terms that are often used interchangeably, rather than having a difference in meaning. Eid is a general term that includes several celebrations throughout the Islamic calendar, such as Eid al-Fitr and Eid al-Adha. Eid al-Fitr marks the end of Ramadan, the month of fasting, while Eid al-Adha celebrates the Prophet Ibrahim’s willingness to sacrifice his son. So Bakrid is a specific celebration within the larger framework of the Eid festivals, highlighting the importance of sacrifice and obedience.
