Ambati Rayudu is a name every cricket fan is familiar with. The 37-year-old cricketer has been participating in the IPL since 2010 and played for two of the most successful teams, Mumbai Indians (2010-17) and Chennai Super Kings (2018-23). As part of MI and CSK, Rayudu has won 5 IPL titles.
Rayudu is known for his explosive batting skills and impeccable fielding skills. He also bowled regularly with the bat and occasionally acted as a wicket-keeper. Rayudu is considered one of the best middle-order batsmen in Indian history. He was also part of many controversies and had many altercations with opposition players, on-field referees and management administrators.

Biography of Ambati Rayudu
- Ambati Rayudu was born on September 23, 1985 in Guntur, Andhra Pradesh, India.
- His father Sambasiva Rao worked in the archives department.
- Rayudu credited his father for his success and developing his passion for cricket. His father often took him to training camps, practices and tournaments.
- At the age of 16, Rayudu came into the limelight after scoring an unbeaten 177 against England in the 2002 U-19 ODI series.
- He then played for Hyderabad in the Ranji Trophy, becoming the youngest player to score a hundred and double centuries in the same match.
- Rayudu captained the Indian team at the 2004 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup. The team finished as semi-finalists.
- After a few uneventful years, Rayudu joined the Indian Cricket League (ICL) which “rebelled” against BCCI guidelines and was in danger of being banned permanently.
- However, he received a reprieve from the BCCI and was recruited by Mumbai Indians ahead of the 2010 IPL season.
- Rayudu achieved success while playing for MI and played a vital role in the team’s success. MI won three IPL titles in 2013, 15 and 17, with Rayudu being one of the highest run-scorers for the team.
- He was acquired by Chennai Super Kings in 2018 and again lifted the IPL trophy in 2018 and ’21.
- Rayudu made his international debut in 2013 against Zimbabwe. He was a member of the team participating in the 2015 Word Cup but did not have a chance to play. He did not make it into the squad for the 2019 World Cup and quickly announced his retirement from all forms of cricket but later rescinded it.
- Rayudu is married to his college friend Chennupalli Vidya and the couple has two children together.
