What were his contributions to the Struggle for Freedom?

Bhagat Singh actively participated in the Indian freedom movement. He was a key figure in several revolutionary movements that shaped Indian history. Along with the Kakori case and the Dusshera bomb blast, two other popular incidents are:

Lahore conspiracy case

Bhagat Singh was an important part of the infamous Lahore Conspiracy Case. Lala Lajpat Rai suffered several injuries and eventually died in 1928 while participating in an agitation against the Simon Commission. Angered by the incident, Bhagat Singh was determined to take revenge and due to a misunderstanding, killed JP Saunders, another official who replaced SP James Scott.

An arrest warrant was then issued in his name, and to avoid this, he left Lahore and disguised his appearance.

Central council bombing

The bomb blast that took place on 8 April 1929 in Delhi’s Central Legislative Assembly was another incident linked to Bhagat Singh. Bhagat Singh and his accomplice Batukeshwar Dutt detonated the bomb from the “Visitor’s Gallery”. Besides, they also distributed leaflets and raised the slogan “Inquilab Zindabad”. Arguing that they needed a platform to convey their message, neither Batukeshwar Dutt nor Bhagat Singh objected to their arrest. And at that moment, he uttered his most famous quote, “make the deaf hear.”

An avid reader of leftist works, Bhagat Singh continued to publish critical articles to express his disagreement with the British government and incite the people to overthrow the ruling regime.
